Mr Richard Baker

Mr Baker graduated from Manchester University in 1999 and was awarded an MD from the University of Bristol in 2012. He completed his Orthopaedic specialty training in Bristol, before completing the prestigious Vancouver Arthroplasty Fellowship.
Mr Baker performs over 400 joint replacements a year and specialises in both primary and revision hip and knee replacement. He is currently the advisory editor of Hip International, having previously been its Editor-in-Chief for six years.
Mr Steve Eastaugh-Waring

Mr Eastaugh-Waring completed his Orthopaedic training in Sheffield, Bristol, and Toronto. He performs primary and revision hip replacements and hip arthroscopy. He has a subspecialty interest in young adult hip pathology.
He performs over 300 hip replacements per year, including a high caseload of hip resurfacing procedures. Mr Eastaugh-Waring has a particular interest in surgical training and has previously been head of the Severn School of Surgery.
Mr Sanchit Mehendale

Mr Mehendale is a consultant at University Hospitals Bristol & Weston NHS Foundation Trust and conducts his elective practice at North Bristol. He completed his Orthopaedic training in India and the South West of England, with fellowship training in Bristol.
Mr Mehendale has specialist interests in primary and revision hip replacement surgery, prosthetic joint infection, and young adult hip pathology. He performs a high volume of hip arthroscopy procedures, and co-leads the complex young adult hip clinic at UHBW.
Mr Niall Sullivan

Mr Sullivan is a consultant at University Hospitals Bristol & Weston NHS Foundation Trust, with his elective practice at North Bristol. He completed his Orthopaedic training in Bristol, with advanced arthroplasty fellowship training in Auckland, NZ.
He has specialist experience in the management of hip arthritis and complex hip pathologies such as avascular necrosis, metastatic cancer, post-traumatic and developmental disorders requiring hip replacements. He is a revision hip surgeon, specialising in the management of infected hip replacements.
Mr Sullivan is the hip fracture lead at the Bristol Royal Infirmary and Orthopaedic lead for Silver Trauma. He is one of four surgeons running the regional centre for prosthetic hip joint infection at Southmead Hospital.
Mr Jason Webb

Mr Webb completed his Orthopaedic training in Bristol with further fellowship training at the Endoklinik in Hamburg. In 2015, he was awarded the prestigious Rothman-Ranawat Traveling Fellowship to the USA.
Mr Webb has a subspecialty interest in revision hip arthroplasty and the prevention and treatment of prosthetic joint infection. He was awarded an MD by the University of Bristol in 2010 for a thesis on joint infection treatment and is the clinical lead for Prosthetic Joint Infection at NBT.
Prof Mike Whitehouse

Prof Whitehouse studied at the University of Bristol and Cardiff University, obtaining a doctorate (PhD) in Orthopaedics from Bristol and a master’s degree (MSc) in Orthopaedic Engineering from Cardiff. His higher clinical specialist training took place in London, Bristol and Vancouver.
He completed prestigious fellowships in hip and knee replacement surgery: the Vancouver Fellowship in adult joint replacement and the Bristol Fellowship in advanced hip and knee surgery. During the course of his training, he completed Research Fellowships with the British Hip Society (the McMinn Scholarship) and Royal College of Surgeons (Research Fellowship) and Travelling Fellowships with the British Orthopaedic Association and the Royal College of Surgeons.
He is an enthusiastic trainer and teacher, having led the Orthopaedic teaching elements for Bristol Medical School and North Bristol NHS Trust Academy and having been lead of the regional Clinical Academic Training School. He is currently co-director of a Master’s Degree Programme in evidence based Orthopaedics.
Mr Simon Bick
FRCS (Tr & Orth)
Mr Bick is the departmental Hip Lead at NBT. He completed the Bristol Hip Fellowship himself and is actively involved in training the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons in the region. Mr Bick is not directly affiliated with this fellowship, but supervises another fellowship at NBT.
He trained in Cape Town, South Africa, qualified as an orthopaedic surgeon there in 2011, and moved to Bristol in 2012 to undertake specialist fellowship training. He undertook three full years of fellowship training – in knee surgery, hip surgery and major trauma centre surgery at Southmead Hospital.
Mr Bick served as the Clinical Governance Lead and Audit Lead for over three years in the department of Trauma and Orthopaedics at Southmead Hospital, North Bristol NHS Trust.
Mr William Poole

Mr Poole is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at North Bristol NHS Trust with an elective practice at the Avon Orthopaedic Centre. He specialises in primary and revision hip surgery, pelvic and acetabular trauma, and complex lower limb trauma. Mr Poole is not directly affiliated with this fellowship, but supervises another fellowship at NBT.
Mr Poole graduated in medicine from University College London in 2010. He also attained a BSc in medical sciences in 2008. He completed his higher surgical training in the Kent, Surrey and Sussex rotation in 2020. He completed higher fellowship training at the Royal Adelaide Hospital in pelvic and acetabular trauma, complex limb trauma, and hip arthroplasty surgery. He gained Mako accreditation for robotic hip surgery during his time in Australia.
